Rashida Jones, the president of MSNBC, announced that she will be stepping down from her post after heading the network for four years. Rebecca Kutler, the network’s senior vice president of content strategy, was named interim MSNBC president. Jones recruited Kutler to the network in 2022. In a memo to staff, Jones said, “After four incredible years at the helm of MSNBC and 11 years at NBCU, I have made the decision to pursue new opportunities.”
” Over the holidays, I made this decision as I thought about our amazing excursion and the numerous successes we’ve had as a team,” she said. ” This has been my most rewarding professional job book, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished, which was only possible thanks to you,” I said.
She added that she will remain on with MSNBC for the “next some month” to assist with the change.
Rashida Jones, according to MSNBC, became the first Black administrative to lead a big US television news channel.
The announcement was made as a spin-off was awaited by MSNBC. Comcast made a plan two months ago to merge its cable TV networks with a distinct publicly traded company, now known as SpinCo. The innovative business may include MSNBC, CNBC, the USA Network, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and the Golf Channel.
In a letter to employees, Mark Lazarus, the approaching deputy executive of SpinCo, praised Jones for her times helming MSNBC.
Rashida has skilfully navigated MSNBC through a years-long, unending, and extraordinary news cycle while inspiring the system to report viewership and investing in unconventional businesses. MSNBC is well-positioned for the future”, Lazarus said in a letter to workers.
On a system call, Lazarus informed staff members that after the spin-off transaction is complete, MSNBC will keep its name.
