The long-standing rivalry between President-elect Donald Trump and Gov. As wildfires ravage the Los Angeles area, Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA ) has become the subject of controversy, forcing at least 24 people to flee in large numbers.

The president-elect and Newsom have engaged in a common back-and-forth regarding the management of the fire, which are expected to be the costliest natural catastrophe in U. S. story. The conflict between the two comes as Democrat lawmakers discussion whether to include disaster aid for the wildfires in a debt cap increase.

BIDEN USES LAME-DUCK PRIDENCY TO SHAPE LEGACY AND FINISH TO DO LIST

Trump has repeatedly urged Newsom, who he refers to as” Newscum,” to withdraw, and claimed that the government of California is to blame for issues with the state’s water management.

Newsom has refuted Trump’s claims, launched an independent investigation into the falls in the stress in neighborhood fire hydrants, and discovered an absence of liquid from the Santa Ynez Reservoir. The governor of California made the suggestion on Sunday that Trump did arbitrarily try to halt federal aid for the disaster.

” He’s done it in Utah. He’s done it in Michigan, did it in Puerto Rico. He did it to California before I actually became governor in 2018, until he discovered Orange County residents had voted for him, and he made a decision to give them money,” Newsom said in an appointment with Meet the Press. ” But, he’s been at this for years and years and years. It transcends the state, including, by the way, Georgia, he threatened also. But, that’s his design. And we take it seriously”.

Meanwhile, Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT ) joined Trump in criticizing the California governor, suggesting that Newsom and other state leaders must be held “accountable for getting us in this position”.

” There needs to be a lively conversation in terms of accountability as to how we got into this situation in the first place. You’re never going to reduce the risk of fire, but you can limit and start to reduce the risk of severe wildfires, which is what we’re seeing right today in California”, he told the Washington Examiner. The conflagration of governmental policies and NGOs that justify several reduction projects has received very little attention. It’s wrong”.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD ) reminded Washington Examiner officials that they must also identify the “need” before discussing additional financing costs.

” Finally, we can get it contained. It’s been a terrible tragedy, devastating effect on families all across the area, and no fear there will be, I’m sure, a debate about how to respond and what part each level of government needed to perform in that procedure”, he said in an interview.

HOW BIDEN IS RYING TO CHANGE ITSELF WITH JUST MONTHS LEFT IN OFFICE

Liberals, as expected, have lined up in opposing Trump and Republicans.

Ted Lieu, vice chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, told the Washington Examiner that it is” completely improper” for Republicans to impose conditions on light support.

” We should be focused on how we can help victims of natural disasters, and when Mother Nature hits, she doesn’t worry about party affiliation or where individuals live”, he claimed. ” We’re all Americans at the end of the day, and our focus should be on helping”.

Rep. George Whitesides (D-CA ), a freshman lawmaker whose district has been severely affected by the fires, added,” I’m new here, but I don’t believe conditions should be attached to disaster aid.” In California, we must assist the Americans in the same way we have in North Carolina, Florida, and Louisiana in times of need.

A protracted discussion over light aid was stifle Republican efforts to pass legislation that advances Trump’s agenda. GOP leaders have already split into two camps, helmed by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA ) and Thune, respectively, about whether Trump’s tax cuts, border security initiatives, and energy policies should be advanced separately or as one stand-alone bill.

” One act, two charges — doesn’t matter to me”, the president-elect said of the split while visiting Washington last year. ” They’re going to work that out. However, the final outcome will remain unchanged.

Trump was planning to travel to California to see the harm of the wildfires first, according to Johnson to reporters on Tuesday. Following Monday’s opening, Trump advisers are reportedly planning a trip the following month, but the Trump change team declined to provide an answer.

Trump’s anticipated trip to the Los Angeles area comes after Newsom claimed on Saturday that he had invited the president-elect to attend but had not heard again from the president-elect’s staff.

Trump, who will take office on January 20, even attributed the flames ‘ response to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, President Joe Biden, and another Democratic figures to the leader. Trump is drawing a political line in the sand by doing so, which could have an impact on how closely the federal-state partnership for the months-long remediation and recovery effort is cooperating.

Two seasoned Republican workers with close ties to the Trump administration told the Washington Examiner that Biden and Kamala Harris are leaving next year and are giving their voters” a new goal” to focus on.

” Biden is gone. Nancy Pelosi is using a walker. One strategist predicted that President Trump should concentrate and direct the party’s various branches so that he can pass his agenda as quickly as possible, so he’s really giving them a point of reference when Democrats placed Newsom on the short list of 2028 national nominees.
