Florida Gov. On Wednesday, Ron DeSantis unveiled a number of legislative proposals that are intended to speed the incoming Trump administration’s plan to deport illegal aliens from the nation.
DeSantis stated in a press conference introducing the actions that” Florida is ready to lead.” Florida now has a unique opportunity to contribute to putting an end to America’s immigration issue, according to President Trump.
The mayor’s proposed legislation, according to a media release from the office, includes provisions establishing” a state violence for entering the United States fraudulently and a method for self-deportation,” expanding” the legal description of gang-related activities to include more groups of dangerous improper aliens,” and repealing “in-state college tuition for illegal immigrant students.”
The blueprint also includes a requirement for “maximum participation in the 287 ( g ) deportation program, with penalties for non-compliance, including suspension of officials”. Immigration Customs and Enforcement ( ICE ) reports that the initiative gives federal immigration officials the authority to “delegate to state and local law enforcement officers the authority to perform specific immigration officer functions under the direction and supervision of the agency.”
DeSantis ‘ proposal also includes provisions that would “designate a designated officer to coordinate coordination with federal authorities and the Unauthorized Alien Transport Program ( UAT )” and” [e ] expand UATP to detain and facilitate the deportation of illegal aliens from the United States. S”.
The government also gave “voter membership assurance of U.S. citizen and Florida residency,” enforcing tougher penalties for illegal aliens registering and voting in elections, requiring ID identification for “foreign payment transfers,” and creating a “rebuttable premise that illegal aliens are flight risks and claim bail” a list of other policies that the governor also gave his office.
The measures appear to be a continuation of Sunshine State law passed by DeSantis in recent years. In addition to other changes to state law, those bills included provisions that would improve penalties for illegal border crossings and mandate that employers with 25 or more employees use E-Verify to verify their employees ‘ citizenship status.
Two days after DeSantis requested a special session of the Florida Legislature the week of January 27 to get the money and resources needed to fund Trump’s nationwide deportation operations, Wednesday’s press conference comes as a result. Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez and Senate President Ben Albritton, both Republicans, appeared to rebuff the idea of a special session, calling it “premature” in a letter sent to legislators on Monday.
DeSantis clapped back at the legislature’s Republican leadership on Wednesday, suggesting that Floridians will hold GOP legislators who fail to get on board “accountable”.
You basically say that it’s premature for us to act with a new President coming in after four years of Biden’s incredibly destructive immigration and border policies. Are you joking,””? DeSantis said.
Trump thanked DeSantis for setting up a special session on Tuesday in a Truth Social post, and expressed hope that “other Governors will follow” his example. Tennessee Gov. According to the governor’s office, Bill Lee made an apparent attempt to do just that by announcing on Wednesday his plans to hold a special session of the Volunteer State’s legislature to” consider public safety measures related to immigration to ensure the state is prepared for federal policy implementation.”
