In its final days, the Biden-Harris management continues to promote the outdated notion of a Palestinian state as a means of addressing the Middle East’s problems.
While Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated in a recent statement that “our critical is not to move up the time the way issues were before October 7th,” Blinken does so with an unrestrained desire for a two-state option and a “reformed Arab Authority” six days. However, Blinken disregards several details that make a fantasy like this difficult poison.
Blinken anticipates an “interim management of Palestinians from Gaza and Palestinian representative representatives,” who would then “hand over full responsibility to a thoroughly reformed PA management as soon as it’s possible.” But do a “fully reformed PA” possibly be possible?
Blinken really solutions that problem. He mentions that” ]n ] o one should expect Israel to accept a Palestinian state that is…militarized or has independent armed militia, that aligns with Iran or others who reject Israel’s right to exist, that educates and preaches rejectionism, or that, unreformed, becomes a failed state”. But the PA is stuffed full of individuals who support murder against the Jews, reject Israel’s right to exist, spread horrible anti-Semitic canards, and also indulge in violence against Israel. However, those in the PA have not only praised Hamas ‘ October 7 assault, but people of the PLO and Fatah really participated. But by Blinken’s metric, well, Israel should accept a Palestinian state operate by the PA.
Blinken mentions that” Hamas has tried for years to remove the idea of two says.”  , It hoped to kill the Oslo Accords”. However, Blinken did not realize that Oslo was likewise destroyed by the PA. It did this by tricking next Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon into going to the Temple Mount, using that as a pretext to organize the Next Intifada, and by rejecting or not making a independence counteroffer.
Blinken makes the bogus claim that Israel may accede to Israeli statehood by stating that Palestinians must choose their future. That cannot be the presumption that Palestinians did take their non-people’s right without respect. The same area contains the ten million Jewish Jews and five million Palestinians.  , Neither is going somewhere”. Despite the Oslo Accords, Blinken ignores several different options that might lead to Muslim independence in the area.
And finally, Blinken recognizes that land-for-peace is a tried type, but demands Israel agree to that failed type:” …in Jewish hearts and minds lies the conviction that past attempts at peace have been met with refusal, violent resistance, greater insecurity – with Camp David leading to the]S] econd]I ] ntifada, the punitive withdrawals from Lebanon and Gaza leading to Hizballah and to Hamas. Convincing Israelis otherwise will be a necessary and significant undertaking in the wake of October 7th. Convincing Israelis to once again accede to a land-for-peace framework is not a “necessary undertaking”, but asking them to disregard facts to accept a rehashed, failed bad idea. Blinken himself acknowledged this.
Hopefully, the incoming Trump administration will end American support for the establishment of a Palestinian state.
