Neil Gaiman, the British fantasy author, is facing accusations of sexual assault by multiple women spanning nearly four decades. Gaiman’s ex-wife, Amanda Palmer, a singer and performance artist, is also in the spotlight, as some of the women reportedly met the author through her.
Who is Amanda Palmer?
Amanda Palmer is a songwriter, singer, and performer best known for being the lead singer and songwriter for the rock musical duo The Dresden Dolls.
Marriage and divorce
After 11 years of marriage, Palmer and Neil Gaiman split up. From the beginning, the woman’s wedding stood out as innovative. They openly discussed their empty union, a theme that received both praise and criticism.
The couple shares one baby, Anthony” Ash” Palmer Gaiman, born in 2015. According to Palmer’s site, she and her brother split their time between New York City, Woodstock, and Boston, Massachusetts.
Why did Gaiman and Palmer independent?
Gaiman and Palmer were known for boldly expressing their unconventional relationship and its difficulties, mainly balancing their artistic jobs with a family life. When Palmer became pregnant with their child, they decided to transition to a faithful marriage, according to Newsweek.
Palmer’s friends claim that despite Palmer believing the connection had ended, she sought marriage after learning that Gaiman was also “having physical contact” with a lady referred to as Rachel.
As Palmer became aware of other women, some of whom afterwards described their interactions with Gaiman as being unconcerned, the relationship reportedly deteriorated even further.
Palmer reportedly confided in a lady named Caroline, expressing anguish about her husband’s actions. She reportedly said:” You have no idea the twisted, dark things that go on in that man’s head”.
In November 2022, Gaiman and Palmer announced their breakup, calling it a “difficult selection”. They emphasized their commitment to raising their child in a “loving and sympathetic culture.”
Was Amanda Palmer informed of the alleged attack?
One person, Pavlovich, claimed she informed Palmer about Gaiman’s behaviour in March 2022, according to Newsweek. She described an event in vague terms, saying,” I didn’t have any choice in the matter. He really did it”, though she didn’t immediately identify it as physical abuse.
According to Pavlovich, Palmer was certainly surprised and reportedly responded:” 14 people have come to me about this”. According to New York Magazine, Palmer apparently mentioned hearing from other people who were disturbed by their interactions with Gaiman and made reference to an affair involving a caregiver during Gaiman’s first wedding.
Pavlovich after requested a police statement in New Zealand and was informed that Palmer’s assistance may be necessary for the inspection. But, Palmer declined to support the officers, as per the magazine.
Rachel, another person, claimed she had sex with Palmer after a Dresden Dolls music. Apparently, Palmer introduced the two a few months later and sent semi-nude pictures of Rachel to Gaiman.
While Rachel said there was no “blatant fracture of acceptance” with Gaiman, she alleged that he pressured her into acts that were terrible and made her uncomfortable. Reflecting on her experience, Rachel suggested that Palmer had treated her like” a toys” for Gaiman.
Gaiman’s comment
Reps for Gaiman told the Tortoise podcast:” Physical decay, bondage, domination, depravity, and neurosis may not be to everyone’s taste, but between consenting people, BDSM is lawful”.
