The person is accused of giving poison to her child without medical approval, according to Queensland Police, between August and October 2023. According to Detective Inspector Paul Dalton, she ignored clinical guidance, used residual prescription drugs from her home, and used them on her baby.
According to ABC News, Dalton,” We believe the person we have charged administered these drugs to improve her social media profile and get a fiscal benefit.”
After the baby was admitted to a clinic in October and having a serious health episode, health professionals called the authorities. The presence of illicit drugs was confirmed by assessments conducted in January.
The woman allegedly raised AUD 60, 000 ($ 37, 300 USD ) on GoFundMe by claiming her child had a terminal illness. GoFundMe stated that it was working with law enforcement and giving sponsors strategic refunds.
The baby is then secure and is no longer in the care of her mother, according to authorities. Police emphasized that the medical personnel involved had handled the case correctly and expressed love for their distress.
The person has been charged with various acts, including administering poison with intent to harm, making baby abuse substance, and scams. She is scheduled to show up in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.
Detective Inspector Dalton described the alleged offences as “repulsive” and highlighted the precise concealment of the alleged events. Despite looking into other people, officers came to the conclusion that the information just supported charges brought against the mother.
