On Wednesday, the town council of Chicago rejected a proposal that would have allowed local law enforcement to collaborate with ICE to detain illegal immigrants with legal documents.

In order to comply with the 2017 Illinois Trust Act and Chicago’s sanctuary area plans, local law enforcement representatives had proposed a shift to the “welcoming area” law. The article, which was voted down by a 39-11 voting, would have allowed local officials to collaborate with ICE officers in targeting illegal refugees arrested for sexual crimes involving adolescents, group activities, or drug-related activities.
Due to Wednesday’s voting, Jordan Kelly, a member of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, criticized the article plan, saying,” Self-hating fools like as Ray Lopez and Tabares want to change our city into a heaven for workers who are not only Latin, by the way. CAIR Chicago has 40-50 opened asylum cases now. What should we say to these individuals and families if we don’t keep a shelter? Plus, our market cannot handle bulk persecution”.

Fox News reported that Chicago’s voting against the act request came only a fortnight after Johnson unveiled new guidelines , to prevent local law enforcement officers from cooperating with ICE authorities under President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming management.
City officials should” contact your agency or department’s designated attorney or general counsel for further guidance,” according to the mayor’s guidelines. Call the highest-ranking official or designated supervisor on the job site; hold off until that person arrives.”
The guidelines also urge officials to” not consent to ICE entering any private or ‘ sensitive ‘ , City  , location”. However, officials have been warned not to “attempt to interfere with the search”. Additionally, local authorities have been instructed to demand copies of ICE warrants and take notes when ICE acts.
According to Fox News, one Chicago resident criticized Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson for his administration’s immigration policies during Wednesday’s meeting, saying,” Who are you loyal to? Which group of Chicago residents are illegal immigrants or the Americans? The sanctuary law that Brandon Johnson allowed has brought criminals, drug dealers, and now terrorists” . ,
Following the release of the city’s new guidelines, Lopez told , Fox 32 Chicago,” I am surprised, actually, that the mayor is going through this extraordinary effort to try and stop what Ald. Tatares and I want to accomplish what we want to accomplish: to eliminate the small number of people who choose to commit crimes in Chicago.
