President-elect Donald Trump did pull Mike Bankers, a special assistant to Gov. Greg Abbott for borders things, to direct the U. S. Border Patrol, according to the New York Post.
Businesses, a retired Border Patrol agent, has served as Texas ‘ “border king” since 2023 when Abbott created the place.
The media agencies for the Trump administration’s transition staff and Abbott’s office did not immediately respond Thursday to requests for comment.
In the wake of the country’s concerted effort to control the southwestern border with Mexico, known as Operation Lone Star, and its clashes with the Biden administration over immigration enforcement, which has long been the federal government’s exclusive responsibility, Banks served as a border consultant.
Department of Public Safety soldiers and National Guard personnel have been dispatched to the frontier as part of the mission, where they have installed yards of concertina wire and a floating buoy barrier near Eagle Pass, and they have also detained thousands of immigrants on legal intruding costs.
U. S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, told investigators in Washington D. C. Thursday that Trump’s find was a “great selection”.
” I know Mike, and I think it’s an inspired selection, and anyone understands the frontier better than Texans”, Cornyn said. ” Texas certainly has the biggest borders, the longest frontier, and I really like the idea that we will have someone who understands the Texas boundary,” he said.
