In response to recent revelations of sexual assault, the French cathedral has officially requested that prosecutors launch an investigation into Abbe Pierre, a once-revered preacher and philanthropic icon who passed away in 2007.
Archbishop Eric de Moulins-Beaufort, chairman of the European Priests ‘ Convention, CEF, announced the shift Friday.
” We must get to the middle of the reality- detect any more victims, accomplices, and failures to review these crimes”, he told RMC stereo.

Abbe Pierre, born Henri Groues, was celebrated for his diligent work with the bad and for founding the Emmaus action, which aids the poor and marginalized. His reputation is currently being overshadowed by growing misuse claims, though.
Nine additional allegations of sexual assault, including the murder of a young boy, were revealed in a second report produced by Emmaus and released earlier this week. With the exception of 57 potential patients identified in these most recent revelations, 33 have been given in full, compared to 33 in the 1960s and 2000s.

” In the years 1955 to 1957, certain actions raised concern. Attempts were made to reduce his influence and take him to a clinic in Switzerland, but he managed to evade these methods”, he told RMC.
Based on two staged movies and reports from the discussing firm Egae, the latest discoveries paint a shocking picture of Abbe Pierre as a manipulator of those who trusted him.
” With each review, we cross another level in understanding what Abbe Pierre perhaps have done and the method he seemed to have constructed”, de Moulins-Beaufort said.
The CEF wished the patients and anyone else who had been impacted by Abbe Pierre’s activities to come forth. The religion and Emmaus have established specialized helpline to assist victims.
