The political opening ceremony and the holiday have overlapped for three years in 2025. In 1997 and 2013, Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, between, were sworn in for their next term. Obama’s people 2013 opening ceremony was held on Jan. 21 according to Jan. 20 falling on a Sunday.
