Senators from the Green Party criticized Alejandro Mayorkas ‘ numerous errors in Friday’s confirmation hearing for Kristi Noem, the nominee for DHS’s head of the Department of Homeland Security ( DHS). Legislators who needed to express their disgust with existing DHS Secretary Mayorkas, whom Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno of Ohio called” the worst case part ever in the history of the United States of America,” had a tendency to watch the hearing as Republican therapy sessions.
Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, described how Mayorkas established the Disinformation Governance Board “using tax resources to judge talk on the internet and elsewhere, to use the power of the state to judge it,” using the authority of the state to do so.
” This has got to be the darkest chapter, I think, in DHS’s short history”, Hawley said. Under the guise of” Mayorkas,” the board was ultimately withdrew after receiving intense criticism, but he has never fully rejected it or promised not to do it again.
The hearing’s concept was that DHS has abandoned its work. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, a Republican, summarized conventional criticism of the office in his entry speech:
Instead of concentrating on pressing issues like securing the southwest borders, Government has turned its attention inward, focusing on law-abiding Americans. DHS, under the Biden administration, has frequently used its great power to pin Americans exercising their legal rights. It has grown more of a body to policing talk, monitoring social media, and labeling social dissention as domestic extremism than to addressing real security threats. DHS has spent its time and resources creating political disinformation board that use invasive tracking techniques to spy on Americans while cartel traffic people and morphine across a bare borders. The goal fall is risky.
Among the most problematic agencies and departments in the country are, but not limited to, Customs and Border Protection ( CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE), the Secret Service, FEMA, the Transportation Security Agency ( TSA ), and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency ( CISA ).
Democrats did not stand up for Mayorkas or DHS in its present form. They expressed concern for Noem and were diplomatically approachable, but they also expressed concern about DHS’s lack of transparency regarding the documents Senate members requested from the Secret Service regarding the Trump death plots or proper frontier crossing information.
Noem promised to concentrate on more than persecution, but many Democrats demanded assurances from him. They pointed to domestic violence, mentioning the New Year’s Day vehicle assault on walkers in New Orleans. Noem was questioned by some if she intended to use politics to distribute FEMA disaster relief funds, which would only be distributed to Democratic crisis subjects. Noem claimed that party elections would certainly affect FEMA funding.
Noem also stated that she would return staff working for DHS, including FEMA people, to the office.  ,
” I’ve heard that many of the companies within the office are not showing up since being nominated for this place.” They’re certainly doing their jobs”, Noem said. Yet FEMA, who is in charge of disaster answer, may have the option to not even listen to a catastrophe, which may explain the horrifying outcomes that we saw in North Carolina when they experienced such a horrible disaster that negatively affected families and communities, and FEMA failed them so badly.
Noem pledged to stop illegal aliens entering the country and stop using the CBP One smartphone apps, which Mayorkas and the Biden administration used to bolster their extreme open borders plan. She even plans to improve communications between federal, state, and local authorities during disasters.  ,  ,
” The confidence in DHS is quite low”, Noem said. ” I’m going to let people perform their work. I’m going to keep them informed of what their duties are. Some of these Border Patrol agents have been unable to perform their duties for a very long time. When they should be again securing our borders, they’ve been processing documents and facilitating an invasion, which is why they were recruited and wanted to go there to begin with.
Sen. Moreno challenged Liberals to ensure Noem.
The greatest advancement in the history of the United States of America would be if there were a job interview in the private sector with someone like Alejandro Mayorkas in charge and we had the opportunity to upgrade to [ Noem],” Moreno said. ” When Mayorkas was confirmed, every single Democrat voted to confirm him, and six Republicans joined … in that assurance. …We may include 100 percent — 100 lawmakers vote for your assurance. In my opinion, this will serve as the deciding factor in whether a Democrat group is truly committed to achieving republican goals like ensuring the security of our people.
