Pakistan’s launch of its first locally developed Electro-Optical ( EO-1 ) satellite from China’s Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre on Friday quickly became the target of social media trolling.
While Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, praised the success as a major step on X, online users made comparisons between the rocket’s form and a water ship, causing a flood of memes and jokes to surface on social media.

Sharif described the media as a “proud time for the country” when she shared it on X. In his article, he congratulated the scientists and engineers for their commitment, saying,” From predicting produce yields to tracking industrial development, EO1 is a step forward in our quest towards development”.
Ishaq Dar, the deputy prime minister and foreign minister, even posted on X, describing the start as a” major progress” and a bible to Pakistan’s expanding space-based features.
According to Suparco, PRSC-EO1 satellite is expected to bring practical benefits, such as better disaster management, improved agricultural monitoring, and enhanced urban planning.
Suparco highlighted the peaceful purposes of the satellite, emphasising its role in sustainable development. The launch of an indigenously produced EO satellite is a testament to Suparco’s expertise and the Pakistani government’s commitment to pursue space technology for peaceful purposes, the organization was quoted as saying in the Dawn.
