Two judges shot dead at Iran's supreme court: media

State media reported that two magistrates were killed on Saturday in a shooting attack at the Tehran Supreme Court tower.
” This night, a shooter infiltrated the Supreme Court in a planned assassination of two courageous and knowledgeable judges. The two magistrates were martyred in the act”, the court’s Mizan Online web reported.
Mizan said the aggressor “killed himself” after the murders.
Additionally, one other man was hurt in the assault, according to state news agency IRNA.
Ali Razini and Mohammad Moghisseh, who were the two murdered judges, were named by Mizan as the two defendants, adding that they had been “working on cases involving crimes against national security, spy, and terrorism.”
Asghar Jahangir, a spokesman for the court, reported on state television afterwards on Saturday that” a man armed with a gun entered the room” of the two magistrates and killed them.
Mizan claimed the assailant was never involved in any circumstances before the Supreme Court, without providing more information about the suspect’s identification. The purpose behind their shooting were not immediately known.
Officials said an investigation into the affair was launched, Mizan added.
Veteran determine Moghisseh, 68, was sanctioned in 2019 by the United States for having “overseen many cruel roads, during which costs went baseless and information was disregarded”, according to the US Department of the Treasury.
Razini, 71, held a number of significant positions in Iran’s courts, and he was originally targeted in an assassination attempt in 1998, according to Mizan. He was also a target of assailants who “punched a magnetic weapon in his car.”
Although murders involving prominent people in Iran are uncommon, there have been a few in recent years that targeted high-profile people.
After leading Friday prayers in the southwestern area of Kazeroun, a Shiite Muslim priest was shot dead in October.
A strong preacher named Abbas Ali Soleimani was shot dying at a bank in Mazandaran, in addition, in April 2023.
Additionally, two gunmen shot Egyptian judge Hassan Moghaddas as he was allegedly killed in Tehran’s busy business district in August 2005.
Two people who had been found guilty of his murder were hanged for good two years later.
