Egyptian song Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, also known as Tataloo, was sentenced to death on Monday on appeal after being convicted of heresy, news agency AFP reported quoting regional media reports.
Etemad, a liberal paper, reported that” the Supreme Court accepted the lawyer’s issue” to a previous five-year jail sentence for costs, including heresy.
It added that” the situation was reopened, and this time the accused was sentenced to death for insulting the apostle,” referring to Prophet Mohammed. The conviction, however, is not last and can still be appealed.
In addition to the death word, Tataloo was recently sentenced to 10 times for promoting “prostitution” and faced charges of spreading “propaganda” against the Islamic Republic and publishing “obscene information. “
Tataloo, 37, has been in confinement in Iran since being handed over by Greek regulators in December 2023. Previously, he had been living in Istanbul since 2018.
Known for combining music, pop, and R& B, Tataloo had formerly interacted with liberal politicians in Iran to join with younger Iranians. In 2017, he appeared on television with then-President Ebrahim Raisi, who afterward died in a plane crash.
In 2015, Tataloo released a music in support of Iran’s nuclear program, which came to an end in 2018 during Donald Trump’s president.
