“And that ’s what the American people voted for. That’s why we had the great mission, ” Thune said on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom. “The leader won a significant authority this drop, and he’s moving ahead on implementing it. We want to do everything we can to remain friendly and to be good companions as we move on an objective that I think gets this land back on track, and we are urgently off track after the last four decades. ”
As part of this course to implement Trump’s plan, Thune detailed the method needed to confirm Trump’s Cabinet contenders and the concern that Democratic legislators pose in confirming them. The Senate majority leader noted how former President Barack Obama’s second 12 votes were confirmed in 15 times compared to Trump’s contenders taking 43 nights, with Thune calling for a return to “the Obama standard ” and expressing hope Democrats may cooperate with the confirmation of Trump’s regional security team.
When asked about resistance Trump could face from some Republican lawmakers, Thune cited how Trump spoke with party members who have n’t historically supported him on what he aims to focus on, which includes “energy dominance ” in the U. S. , as well as rebuilding the nation’s military. He added that while Republicans have “a lot to get done, ” it is what voters want from the nation’s leadership and that Republicans intend to work with the president to achieve it.

Thune also addressed the challenge Trump faces with TikTok and its operations in the U. S. , stating that Congress took action to ban the social media platform because “China is a threat ” to the U. S. since the foreign country manipulates the platform’s algorithm on what viewers watch. Trump has proposed that TikTok remain operational in the U. S. if the country has 50 % ownership of the platform, to which Thune argued that any plan would need to include “getting the majority control out of the hands of the Communist Party. ”
Among the executive orders Trump plans to issue once he is inaugurated is declaring a national emergency at the border, which would allow the Defense Department to deploy active-duty and National Guard military to the southern border. Trump will also issue an order to start immediate removals of illegal immigrants and end birthright citizenship in the country.
