The Senate Armed Services Committee voted on Monday night to give Pete Hegseth’s election as the next secretary of defense to the full chamber for verification. The last ballot was 14-13, with all Democrats on the council voting in opposition.
“ I just voted to advance Pete Hegseth’s nomination to the Senate floor, ” committee member and Sen. Jim Banks, R-Ind. , wrote on X. “There is no time to waste. The Senate may verify Hegseth NOW! ”
Monday’s vote comes nearly a fortnight after Hegseth’s assurance reading, in which the Army veteran faced disgusting slanders and unscrupulous issues from the committee’s Democrat people. However, the committee’s Republican members mainly focused on policy-related issues impacting the defense and U. S. regional security.
During his notes, Hegseth outlined his goal of restoring dignity and productivity to the pressure and removing neo-Marxist beliefs harming military preparation.
The Defense Department has “make sure every warrior is fully qualified on their assigned tool technique, every captain is fully qualified and current on the plane they are flying, and every general or symbol official is selected for management based purely on performance, readiness, and merit, ” Hegseth said. “Leaders — at all levels — will be held responsible. And warfighting and fatality — and the preparation of the soldiers and their families— may be our only concentrate. ”
Some GOP senators who were thin on supporting Hegseth’s verification declared their intention to voting for his candidacy following previous week’s hearing. This included Republican Sens. Todd Young of Indiana, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, John Curtis of Utah, and Joni Ernst of Iowa.
The Federalist reported last month on Ernst’s behind-the-scenes attempts to cylinder Hegseth’s election. This included, as many sources revealed, Ernst making specific names to Trump and enlisting Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S. C. , to lounge the then-president-elect to chuck Hegseth for Ernst.
Graham signaled his willingness to support Hegseth’s assurance following previous week’s reading, writing on X, “With today’s efficiency, I believe Pete Hegseth’s journey to verification has been assured. ”
Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s company did not respond to The Federalist’s request for comment on whether Hegseth has the seats needed to become the next defence minister.

Hegseth has faced a storm of baseless and malicious claims since being tapped by Trump to guide the Pentagon. Laundered by America’s dishonest business advertising, some of these statements appear to hinge from a previous disgruntled individual. They have even been strongly disputed by Hegseth’s former colleagues and coworkers.
