US President Donald Trump, after assuming office on Monday, said that is set to include conversations with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This came after the two chief had a telephone phone on Friday over concerns including TikTok, industry and Taiwan.
“We’re going to have meetings and calls with President Xi, ” Trump said.
During his campaign, Trump had threatened to impose levies of up to 60 % on China. But, after a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping next week, Trump appeared to soften his approach, announcing that more conversations with the head of the world’s second-largest business are planned.
Talking about the phone with Xi, Trump said, “The visit was a very good one for both China and the USA. It is my desire that we will address many issues up, and starting soon. We discussed balancing Trade, Fentanyl, TikTok, and many other disciplines. ”
However, Trump has expressed interest in traveling to China within his first 100 days in business as part of efforts to strengthen relationships with Beijing, according to the Wall Street Journal.
” President-elect Donald Trump has told officials he wants to travel to China after he takes office, according to people acquainted with the debate, seeking to strengthen a partnership with Xi Jinping strained by the president-elect’s risk to establish sharper tariffs on Chinese imports,” The Wall Street Journal reported.
