Israel’s best military head Lt Gen Herzi Halevi resigned on Tuesday, citing the problems in security and intelligence that led to Hamas ‘ surprise attack on October 7, 2023.
The invasion resulted in the deaths of around 1,200 Israelis, generally civilians, and the violence of 250 others. Halevi’s departure, which will be successful from March 6, 2025, marks the highest-level fallout over the events that have since triggered a conflict in Gaza.
In his resignation letter, Halevi acknowledged the military ’s failure to protect Israel during the unprecedented assault and expressed responsibilities for the failures under his control. He had assumed his position as chief of staff in January 2023 for a three-year name.
As the withdrawal information broke, Israel launched a major military activity in Jenin, a battleground in the occupied West Bank. The Israeli health department reported at least six people killed and 35 injured during the attack. The operation was launched against the landscape of a fragile peace with Hamas in Gaza, which began weeks before.
The peace, aimed at facilitating captive and slave markets, does not expand to the West Bank. The region has seen a surge in crime, including near-daily Jewish raids and escalating clashes between Israeli settlers and Zionists.
Hamas condemned the Jenin activity, urging Zionists in the West Bank to enhance their weight.
Social force on Netanyahu
Netanyahu even has faced inside criticism, particularly from far-right friends, over the peace deal with Hamas. The package includes the transfer of hundreds of Arab prisoners and has drawn indignation from figures like fund minister Bezalel Smotrich, who threatened to leave the coalition if the war in Gaza does not continue after the six-week ceasefire phase.
While the peace has briefly halted conflicts in Gaza, tensions remain substantial as Hamas continues to argue its power over the country.
The issue has resulted in severe loss of life, with over 47,000 Zionists killed in Gaza, according to local health authorities. Women and children officially constitute more than half of the casualties, though the number of violent deaths remains unknown.
