Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a film meeting on Tuesday, according to Chinese state advertising, with the aim of deepening relationships between Beijing and Moscow.
The conversation, held at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, was reported by state broadcaster CCTV but lacked quick facts about the plan or benefits.
China has continuously positioned itself as a natural party since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. But, its close political and economic ties with Moscow, coupled with its refusal to denounce the battle, have prompted some Nato members to brand Beijing an “enabler” of the issue.
The connection between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin has been a focus point of this relationship. Xi has referred to Putin as his “best companion,” while Putin has described Xi as a “reliable mate”.
Xi has repeatedly iterated China ’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with Russia. ” China is ready to meet Putin to continually develop all-round pragmatic cooperation between our two nations,” Xi had said, emphasising the importance of “permanent good-neighborly friendship, complete proper cooperation, and mutually beneficial cooperation. “
The discussions reflect the growing synchronization between China and Russia, especially since the beginning of the Ukraine turmoil in 2022. Facing big economic punishment from the West, Moscow has turned to Beijing to boost business and support.
The two countries have consistently criticised what they describe as” Western identity,” especially US dominance in world affairs, and declared a” no limits” relationship just days before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The movie appointment comes after President Donald Trump assumed business. Putin, in a televised target, extended his gratitude to Trump and signaled openness to discourse on the Ukraine crisis. “The goal should not be a quick peace but a lasting peace based on respect for the genuine interests of all persons, ” Putin said, hinting at potential swings in international politics under the new US presidency.
