A 26-year-old gentleman has admitted to tragically stabbing the woman of BBC commentator John Hunt and killing his two grownup sons with a crossbow at their household simply northeast of London next year.
Appearing via picture website at Cambridge Crown Court , Kyle Clifford pleaded guilty on Wednesday to three counts of death, one count of false imprisonment and two counts of possession of offensive arms.
It marked a reversal of Clifford’s first appeal, denying role for the kidnappings of 61-year-old Carol Hunt, his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend Louise Hunt and her 28-year-old sister Hannah Hunt.
All three people were found suffering major injuries inside their house, tucked ahead in the peaceful home town of Bushey, on the day of July 9.
Officers responded to the property near 7 p. m. , following a telephone call from Hannah, who told them she, her mother and her girl had been shot. She said she was frightened “she was going to perish, ” Prosecutor David Burns told the Westminster Magistrates ’ Court.
Despite life-saving work administered by police and first responders , Carol Hunt and her two sons were pronounced dead on the field. A second child, Amy, was however no harmed.
The deadly assault sparked an extreme hunt for the criminal, which culminated in Clifford’s arrest the following morning. Authorities later found him severely injured at Lavender Hill Cemetery near his home Enfield and some 15 km away from the crime scene.
Clifford, who served in the military for about three years starting in 2019 , shot himself in the chest with the catapult, authorities said.
Home Secretary Rochelle Cooper has after said she was mulling whether tougher archer rules were needed, citing the fatal assault, but no propositions have yet been put forward.
Shotguns are legal in the U. K. , albeit with stringent requirements for use and screen.
In wake of the harm , John Hunt and his surviving child issued a statement, saying “the disaster we are experiencing don’t be put into words. ”
Hunt is a senior horse-racing critic for the BBC and Sky Sports, his message known to thousands through his policy of races including the Grand National.
Though pleading guilty to the other expenses on Wednesday, Clifford pleaded no guilty to a matter of raping Louise Hunt. A demo on that fee is set to begin March 3.
