Meta, the parent firm of Instagram and Facebook, is under fire after social media users, including stars like Demi Lovato and Gracie Abrams, accused the system of immediately refollowing official records of US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and First Lady Melania Trump.
Abrams, on her Instagram account, said she had to follow the @vp and @potus accounts three days because the software kept refollowing them. ” How interested! ” the performer wrote. ” Had to stop them in order to make certain I am nowhere near that. “
Demi Lovato expressed a similar stress, saying,” I have unfollowed this man half now,” referencing President Trump.
Meta denies claims
Meta has denied the claims, asserting that people were never forced to follow the records. According to business director Andy Stone, the change of standard Instagram and Facebook accounts for the President, Vice President, and Second Lady happens with every management.
” Individuals were not made to quickly following any of the official Facebook or Instagram accounts for the President, Vice President, or Second Lady,” Stone posted on X. ” This is the same method we followed during the last political transition. “
Stone explained that follow and delete requests may take time to practice due to the change. Nevertheless, this hasn’t stopped people from raising fears about Meta’s management of these accounts.
Broader pessimism over Meta’s procedures
The discussion comes amid growing condemnation of Meta for its perceived rightward shift in policy. Some customers noted this week that the tag# Democrat was blocked on Instagram, more fueling pessimism about the system’s neutrality.
Stone said the matter was part of a broader concern affecting many hashtags across the program, not just those associated with left-leaning information.
