President Donald Trump is expected to follow through on his promise to find pro-lifers jailed by the Biden plan for their peaceful demonstrations “out of the gulags ” this year via presidential pardon.
The clemency are not only important for the pro-life action, which is amping up for its monthly March For Life in Washington, D. C. this Friday, but also for Americans who hoped Trump would cure the devastation wreaked by the Biden administration ’s political trials.
As of President Joe Biden’s inauguration in January 2021, the provincial government had brought fewer than 100 FACE Act prosecutions since the law’s founding in 1994. By 2024, the Democrat program opened 60 situations , just five of which zeroed in on pro-abortion fanatics. The various 55 targeted quiet pro-lifers.
The pardons, according to reporting from the Daily Wire, will extend to lawfare victims like Lauren Handy and 75-year-old Paulette Harlow, who are currently serving sentences in federal prisons for convictions brought under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances ( FACE ) Act.
Bevelyn Williams, a mom who runs a Holy nonprofit that aims to help people in need, is also expected to benefit from the forgive. Williams faced a 41-month prison sentence handed down by a New York judge who “made it very clear in the courtroom that she was going to [make an ] example out ” of the pro-life activist for daring to protest at a Manhattan abortion facility in June 2020.
The Thomas More Society, which defended several of the peaceful protestors throughout the lawfare, submitted petitions for pardons to Trump last week on behalf of nearly two dozen people who they say were “unjustly imprisoned ” and “unjustly convicted ” simply because they prayed, sang, and evangelized at pregnancy services.
Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, reintroduced legislation time before Trump’s professional order that, if passed, would overturn the FACE Act. Roy is among many Republicans who have joined pro-life advocacy groups in pointing out not only the illegitimacy of the rules but the misuse of it at Biden’s way.
“There’s little financial or federal about persons conducting a sit-in at an abortion center, and that ’s actually what the substance of FACE was always on. Also, since the Dobbs decision in 2022 clarifying the fact that abortion always was a federal constitutional right, the whole goal for the FACE Act has vanished, and therefore the law itself had to be done away with, ” Thomas More Society Senior Counsel Stephen Crampton told The Federalist over the telephone.
