Former US President Joe Biden placed a ban on sending 2, 000-pound weapons to Israel, removing a measure meant to lessen civilian deaths in Israel’s continuing fight with Hamas in Gaza, as President Donald Trump lifted.
Trump on Saturday posted on Truth Social, stating that,” A lot of things that were ordered and paid for by Israel, but have not been sent by Biden, are now on their way”!
Speaking about the explosives on Air Force One, Trump stated,” They’ve been waiting for them for a long time. You know, they’ve been in store for a long time and we released them immediately to Israel”.
According to the Associated Press, Biden had delayed the distribution of these big weapons in May to stop Israel from starting a full-scale abuse on Rafah, a city in southern Gaza.
However, a month later, Israel seized power of Rafah after the majority of its one million people and displaced people had ejected.
In May, Biden claimed on CNN that” Citizens have been killed in Gaza as a result of those weapons and other ways in which they go after people locations. If they enter Rafah, I made it clear. I’m never supplying the weapons that have previously been employed to combat Rafah or to combat the places that deal with the issue.
Biden administration’s delay had also delayed the distribution of 1, 700 500-pound weapons included in the same package to Israel, but those weapons were eventually delivered weeks afterwards.
This decision, made five times into Trump’s presidency, coincides with the first stage of a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, which has partially stopped the fighting and facilitated the exchange of Hamas-held victims for Israeli prisoners.
The more difficult second phase, which aims to free all hostages and bring about a lasting peace, has not yet adequately begun discussions.
The government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been warned that if the victims who were still captives aren’t released, it will continue its military operations against Hamas, which launched a massive assault on Israel on October 7, 2023.
