Lebanon’s health department reported that on Sunday, Israeli forces opened flames on protesters who had broken the Jewish army’s obstacles, killing at least three people and injuring about 30 people in southern Lebanon.
Demonstrators attempted to enter some settlements in the border region to rally Israel’s failure to leave southern Lebanon by the 60-day deadline set forth in a peace agreement that put an end to the Israel-Hezbollah conflict in late November, some of whom carried Hezbollah flags.
Israel has stated that it needs to stay longer because Hezbollah is no reestablishing a defense presence in the area because the Syrian army has never traveled to all of southwestern Lebanon. The Syrian army has stated that it cannot build until Israeli forces leave.
In a statement addressing the people of southern Lebanon on Sunday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said,” Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable, and I am following up on this issue at the highest rates to assure your rights and dignity.”
He urged them to “practice self-control and faith in the Lebanese Armed Forces.”
In the border town of Houla, Lebanon’s health department reported 10 fatalities and 10 injuries in a speech. In the town of Aitaroun, nine people were injured in addition to the one activist who was killed. In the town of Blida, a second activist was killed. Odaisseh, Rab Thalatin, and Kfar Kila, respectively, received reports of injury from the health department.
The Israeli army did not respond to the demonstrations right away.
Inhabitants of the border region were warned by the Israeli army’s Arabic-language official on Sunday night to stay away from their homes.
After the Jewish military erected barriers on Saturday while an AP group was joining a security guard, an AP group was stranded immediately at a base of the UN peacekeeping force known as UNIFIL close to Mays al-Jabal. The editors reported hearing gunshots and boomerangs from the bottom Sunday morning, and soldiers claimed tens of protesters had gathered near.
