A substitute teacher in Fort Worth, Texas, is being investigated after reportedly calling on ICE ( Immigration and Customs Enforcement ) agents to attack a nearby high school, claiming that many students “don’t perhaps talk English.”
The tutor, whose identity has not been formally disclosed, posted on X using the control @Hookem232, responding to an ICE release about arrests. The blog read,” Travel to Fort Worth, TX to Northside High School. I have some kids who don’t even speak English and they are in 10th-11th level. They must speak with me using the translator on their iPhone. The]US department of education ] may completely revamp our university system in Texas to”.
The substitute teacher was notified by the Fort Worth Independent School District ( FWISD ) that she would not be teaching while the situation was being looked into.
In response to community issues, Roxanne Martinez, president of the school board, said,” Please be assured that we are taking this situation very seriously and are committed to resolving it as quickly as possible.”
Interim director Karen Molinar even reassured people that the city would stand by its learners, underlining,” We are committed to supporting all families”.
This controversy comes in response to recent federal guidelines that allow ICE to perform in” sensitive areas,” including churches and schools. According to US President Donald Trump, who cites the influx of about 8 million illegal immigrants over the past four years, he has even suggested deploying 10,000 troops to secure the US-Mexico borders.
The awareness of the issue is highlighted by Fort Worth’s scholar community. Two-thirds of the district’s students are Hispanic, and over one-third are English Language Learners ( ELL), relying on resources like translators and language support services to navigate their education.
Earlier incidents of anti-immigrant views
Fort Worth ISD has not had any prior issues with instructors ‘ anti-immigrant language.
In 2019, Georgia Clark, an English instructor at Carter-Riverside High School, gained national attention for posting information on X asking then-President Trump to help reduce “illegal individuals from Mexico” from her class. Clark claimed that local and federal regulators had ignored the problem and that the area was “loaded with unlawful students.”
Clark even sought “protection from rancour” and expressed disappointment over the lack of help for “whistleblowers”. She was eventually fired after city officials determined that her deeds were incorrect.
