Following Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration and large imprisonment, lots of Americans who had already been in handcuffs criticized the Portuguese government.
Brazil’s foreign ministry called the event a “flagrant disregard” of Brazilian people ‘ privileges and demanded an explanation for the “degrading treatment of people on the journey.”
” The uncontrolled use of restraints and chains violates the terms of the agreement with the US, which foresees the respectful, polite, and compassionate care of repatriates”, the department said in a speech.
When they no longer have the option of appealing, the Portuguese government will shorten their stay in US detention facilities for abnormal immigration. The US government will be informed of any changes to immigration policies the ministry of foreign affairs may be looking into, it continued. This will help to ensure Brazilian residents ‘ safety, security, and respect, it added.
Edgar Da Silva Moura, one of the people on the journey, was being deported after seven times in the country, claimed several people perished in the heat inside the airplane.
” On the plane they didn’t offer us waters, we were tied hands and feet, they wouldn’t even let us go to the bathroom”, he told news organization AFP.
” It was very warm, some persons fainted”, he added.
After the helicopter touched down in Manaus, Brazil’s justice ministry claimed Brazilian authorities instructed US officials to “immediately replace the handcuffs.”
The statement referred to the “ignorant disrespect for Portuguese people” that Justice Minister Ricardo Lewandowski told President Luiz Inacio Lula de Torres.
The flight was actually going to Belo Horizonte, in the southeast of the country, but a complex issue prevented it from landing in Manaus.
The deportation trip was more directly related to a 2017 bilateral deal than any immigration orders Trump issued when he took office on Monday, according to AFP.
Trump vowed to crack down on illegal immigration during the battle and inaugurated his second term with a burst of executive orders aimed at overhauling the entry process into the US.
