Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced he would never fight the Trump administration ’s plan to arrest illegal immigrants.
“Detroit is never a sanctuary city, ” Duggan said. “We are a loving area. If you are an immigrant who is legally resident of this state, we encourage you to visit. We support your achievements. We should not be shielding you from ICE and national police if you are in this state illegally, and the city of Detroit does not do so. ”
Duggan, a long-time Democrat, was the first president in 2013 to win the party’s primary election. He announced in December 2024 that he would run as an independent candidate in Michigan’s 2026 presidential election.

According to Diggan, Detroit law enforcement would work with President Donald Trump’s plan to remove people who are in the region without legal standing and have legal histories.
“ICE has a list of who they’re looking for who are unlawful immigrants, who have committed crimes, ” Duggan said. And if one of the people we arrested appears, they did call us and, if they are in prison at the Detroit detention facility, we will hand them over to ICE. ”
Since Trump was elected last year, ICE has carried out numerous operations throughout the nation that have led to the arrest of numerous illegal immigrants who have committed atrocities. During a Sunday function, the company made almost 1,000 arrests of this nature.
Diggan confirmed on Thursday that ICE had not yet conducted any activities in his town to stop illegal refugees.
Gov. Gov. has a warm welcome toward the national organization. Trump’s announced plans to increase penalties for illegal immigration have drawn the Democratic opposition of Gavin Newsom (D-CA ).
However, related to Duggan, another Liberals, including Gov. The Trump White House has been joined by MA Senators Maura Healey and Eric Adams, the mayor of New York.
According to Diggan, Detroit’s position on ICE merely matched the law the town set under past Democratic and Republican administrations in Washington.
