A moment after more than 20 people were killed by Israeli fire in the area, residents of South Lebanon who were accompanied by the army attempted to return to their villages on Monday, according to official media and AFP journalists.
After the Israeli military brokered on Sunday, caretaker prime minister Najib Mikati announced that Lebanon had agreed to extend the peace agreement with Hezbollah until February 18 when it was no longer required to retreat.
A moment after thousands of residents tried unsuccessfully to return to their homes in southern Lebanon, an AFP editor observed dozens of families traveling towards frontier towns on Monday.
An AFP photographer captured dozens of men, women, and children gathered in the Burj al-Muluk town in the morning behind a soil barrier, some of whom were carrying Hezbollah flags, in an effort to cross the Israeli military base in Kfar Kila.
In the town of Bint Jbeil, an entry point for many borders villages, Hezbollah followers were distributing chocolates, waters and images of former chief Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli attack in September.
As people held images of murdered Hezbollah soldiers, some distributed tags recognizing the “victory from God.”
Palestinian “army forces” had arrived near the border city of Mais al-Jabal, where people had started gathering at” the gate of the area” in readiness for joining the military, according to the established nationwide news agency.
Without making any reports of casualties, the Israeli army claimed to have “opened fireplace in the direction of the Syrian army” close to the town.
Residents of the nearby town of Hula entered” after the army was deployed in various neighbourhoods,” according to the agency.
As the Zionist military withdrew over a 60-day interval that ended on Sunday, the Syrian army was scheduled to build in the west alongside United Nations soldiers as part of the ceasefire agreement, which came into effect on November 27.
After more than a year of warfare between Israel and Hezbollah, including two months of an all-out conflict, both sides have exchanged responsible for the delay in implementing the agreement.
Israeli military official Avichay Adraee called for southern Lebanon inhabitants to “wait” before returning on Monday.
The Syrian army declared on Sunday that it would “protect them from Jewish attacks” and continue to “accompanies residents” who were returning to the south.
At least 22 people, including a man, were killed when Israeli forces opened fireplace on” people who were trying to return to their villages,” according to Lebanon’s health department on Sunday.
According to the Jewish war, forces “fired warning photos to eliminate threats” when” suspects were identified approaching the troops.”
