Mohammed Sinwar, the younger sibling of killed Hamas commander Yahya Sinwar, has emerged as a popular figure in the team’s management, becoming a vital strategist for Hamas during one of its most difficult periods, reports the New York Post.
Over 17, 000 Hamas members have died as a result of Israel’s military operations over the past 15 months, and Mohammed Sinwar has played a significant role in the organization’s restoration and strengthening its control over Gaza, especially after his brother Yahya passed away last October.
‘ The darkness ‘
Titled” the dark” by Israeli leaders, Mohammed Sinwar was born in 1975 in a Khan Younis migrant camp and has risen to prominence within Hamas ‘ management. Hamas established a controlling committee to make it more difficult for Israel to take its leaders after his nephew Yahya Sinwar passed away in October of last year. From a brainwashed youth to Hamas’s leader
Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and his nephew Yahya, who founded Hamas, were the first to influence Mohammed’s extreme views. Growing up, he was surrounded by extremists who planned attacks on Israel. At 13, he witnessed his son’s arrest, an occasion that apparently strengthened his devotion to Hamas.
According to the Jerusalem Post, Mohammed was held by the Army for nine weeks on suspicion of engaging in terrorism in 1991. He was imprisoned for three years overall in the 1990s, including a short period of time in Israel’s prison while Israeli security forces were putting him in custody.
Mohammed Sinwar gained acclaim within Hamas after leading the attack that captured Jewish man Gilad Shalit in 2006. The procedure ultimately led to Yahya’s transfer in a 2011 prisoner swap.
Mohammed had remained a close friend of his brother over the years, playing a major role in the planning of the fatal Hamas assault on Israel on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of over 1, 200 people and the captive of 251.

Mohammed Sinwar’s management remains largely mysterious, but his fall within Hamas has made him a important figure.
Colin Clarke, a counterterrorism expert, points out that Sinwar’s association with his nephew Yahya has benefited his popularity in Gaza. Hamas uses his position to enhance its influence, according to Clarke, who describes him as a “brand name.”
