Dajua Blanding, a singer and social media influencer based in Detroit, is suing Lyft after being denied a company according to her weight.
Legitimate representatives for Blanding, who is 489 pounds, have submitted a complaint alleging the latest event breached Michigan’s anti-discrimination policy, which particularly includes weight as a secured feature. However, Michigan is the only state which officially safeguards bodyweight under its anti-discrimination platform.
After Blanding shared it on TikTok on January 19, the circumstance attracted considerable notice. She wrote in her post,” This Uber driver denied me support because I’m a size.”
The film shows the Lyft vehicle saying,” I got no place. My auto is small”. When Blanding said she could meet, he replied,” Believe me, you can’t”.
Abraham, the vehicle shown in the movie, explained his rejection citing rubber conditions and past difficulties with a passenger’s size. He advised using Uber XL, and he promised a payment.
Lyft responded with an official declaration outlining their company words ‘ strict prohibition of all forms of discrimination.
Lyft categorically rejects all forms of discrimination; we think in a society where everyone is treated with the same respect and reciprocal compassion. Our society guidelines and terms of service expressly prohibit abuse or discrimination”, said Lyft in a common declaration.
Although she was reimbursed, Blanding shared her feelings for her fans with the affair.
” I knew that it was unlawful, and I knew that it was wrong”, said Jonathan Marko, counsel for Blanding.
