What makes a meal good? For the first time in 30 times, the Food and Drug Administration is updating its , claim , on what food items can use the term “healthy” on their names.
And you might be surprised by both the new foods that have been approved to use the state and those that are currently being removed.
” This was long overdue. The name’ good’ when used as a state for foods is way out of date”, says , Dr. Donald Hensrud, a Mayo Clinic doctor specializing in diet and the editor of” The Mayo Clinic Diet“.
Dr. Hensrud claims that the FDA’s updated claim to include the term “healthy” on packaging labeling is more in line with the  , Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and that items like guarded white bread, very sweetened cereals, and cheese with added sugars will no longer be labelled as “healthy” are now in line with the FDA’s updated state.
” Today, when people see the simple name’ good food’ on food, it meets certain criteria. There’s data supporting its wellbeing. He claims that it now has lower levels of sugars and saturated fat, as it did before, but also lower levels of honey.
Some fresh foods that have been added to the “healthy” brand list are fruit, vegetables, eggs, whole grains, fatty fish such as mackerel, avocado oil, nuts, seeds and even water. ” And we know from years of research that these products are healthy”, says Dr. Hensrud.
He claims that the FDA will work on developing a symbol that makes it easier for people to recognize healthier foods when they are used in foods that have had the wholesome claim approved.
