Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, recently stated that he “possibly may become diagnosed on the autism band” if he were growing up now.
The 69-year-old businessman discussed his reported connection to dementia in his future guide,” Source Code: My Beginnings”. The Wall Street Journal published an extract from the book on Sunday.
In the extract from” Source Code: My Beginnings”, Gates explained that his relatives, Bill and Mary Gates,” struggled with their complex kid” during his childhood times in the state of Washington.
” If I were growing up now, I definitely would become diagnosed on the , autism spectrum”, Gates wrote.  ,” During my youth, the fact that some women’s brains process information different from others wasn’t frequently understood”.
Gates noted in the book extract that the Cleveland Clinic defines the term “neurodivergent” as” a nonmedical term that describes people whose brains develop or work different for some reason,” was not as widely used as it is now during his early years.
Gates compared autism awareness in today’s society to autism awareness in his early years, saying,” My families had no guideposts or books to help them understand why their child became so obsessed with certain tasks, missed social cues, and could be rude and inappropriate without seeming to notice his influence on others.”
Gates stated in his guide excerpt that despite his relatives giving him the “precise combination of support and force” necessary to develop his social skills, he also struggled with his social growth.
” Also with their influence, my cultural part would be slow to develop, as did my knowledge of the effect I can have on various people”, Gates stated. ” But that has come with age, with practice,  , with kids, and I’m much for it”.
Gates added,” I wish it had come earlier, even if I haven’t business the head I was given for anything”.
Gates also touched on dementia in an appointment with The Wall Street Journal in addition to the book excerpt.
” This whole thing of Asperger’s or on the band is a fairly new item. It used to be that dementia was evidently identifiable”, Gates said. ” But this idea that if you’re slow chatting, you know, I have a behavior where I rock that annoys persons, but that’s also common, so-called self-stimming form factor. So there’s a bit of a match there”.
Gates added,” Looking back on that, because I didn’t behave in a standard way, and yet that deep concentration that got applied to math and science, and eventually to all those programming experiences I had, that became a strength”.
