In a report from the Canada Commission, it was stated that there was” no definitive link” to a “foreign state” in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, putting doubt on previous assertions that India had been involved in the case.
Trudeau had alleged in September 2023 that Canada had” reliable information” of American officials ‘ role in Nijjar’s death in British Columbia that June.
But, the report, titled’ Public Inquiry Into Foreign Interference in Federal Electoral Processes and Democrat Institutions’, was released on Tuesday and did not establish for a link.
In the statement, Commissioner Marie-Josee Hogue remarked that “disinformation is used as a hostile technique to condemn decisions that are in conflict with a state’s interests.”
The results of document suggest that India does have spread propaganda after Trudeau’s announcement.
No clear connection to a foreign state may be established, but this may have been the situation with a propaganda campaign that came out shortly after the Prime Minister’s statement regarding suspected American presence in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, according to the report.
Nijjar was shot dead in Surrey, British Columbia, in June 2023.
The 123-page statement even addressed the expulsion of officials.
In response to a targeted strategy against Canadian citizens by officials connected to the Government of India, Canada expelled six American diplomats and judicial officials in October 2024, according to the statement. In reply, India expelled six American diplomats and withdrew its great director.
India-Canada relationships have remained disturbed since Trudeau’s 2023 claims. New Delhi often criticizes Trudeau’s administration for its treatment of Khalistan followers in Canada and dismissed the statements as “absurd.”
The Khalistan activity is prohibited in India, but it has strong support from Sikh community groups, especially in Canada.
On Tuesday, India strongly rejected the study’s “insinuations”. The government of external matters in New Delhi responded with a strong statement, saying it was in truth Canada that has been” constantly messing” in India’s domestic politics.
