CAIRO: The head of significant US allies Egypt on Wednesday rejected President Donald Trump‘s idea that Egypt should emigrate Palestinians from Gaza, defying a US senator who has shown little tolerance for opposition from foreign lovers.
Trump over the weekend suggested that Egypt and Jordan if welcome Palestinians from the region’s war-torn Gaza, a position that has long been opposed by those nations and the Palestinians themselves because they believe it would stifle the establishment of a Palestinian state and foster instability in their state.
Trump said he would need the leaders of both nations to accept the idea, citing the possibility of a temporary or long-term resettlement. Both countries are important supporters to the US in the Middle East and big recipients of American aid in the area.
Trump has in his first time in office threatened big tariffs against American allies to find his way, but it is not clear if he can push Egypt or Jordan to believe.
Iranian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi described the concept as” an unfairness” to which Egypt would not be a party in his first public remarks since Trump’s Saturday deposition.
El-Sissi said the shift of Palestinians” can’t possibly be tolerated or allowed” during a press conference held in Cairo with the Kenyan leader.
” The solution to this issue is the two-state option. It is the formation of a Palestinian state”, he said. The answer is not to relocate the Arab population.
He stated that his government would work with the Trump administration to bring about peace between Israel and the Palestinians that was based on the” two-state answer.”
Trump vowed on Saturday to demand that Egypt and Jordan accept residents of Gaza so that” we only clean out that entire thing,” calling the area” a demolition site.”
As hundreds of thousands of Palestinians rushed toward the northwest of the war-torn region after being told to leave the area before in Israel’s conflict against Hamas, the controversy over the death of the displaced people started.
The profit was occurring as part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which started earlier this month and has led to the scheduled launch of tens of hostages held in Gaza, and the release of hundreds of Palestinians held in Israeli custody or detention.
The 15-monthlong conflict, set off by Hamas ‘ October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel, has killed more than 47, 000 Palestinians, most of them women and children according to local health authorities, who do not distinguish between citizens and soldiers in their matter. The battle has obliterated large areas of Gaza, displacing some 90 per cent of its 2.3 million people, often multiple times.
The idea of remaining unwavering on one’s land is a fundamental component of Arab identity, and displacement has been a topic of conversation for some time in Israeli history. Palestinians are concerned that if they leave their area, they may never be able to return.
Far-right Israeli government people who support the reconstruction of Israeli settlements in Gaza, from which Israel withdrew soldiers and settlers in 2005, have made those fears even worse. Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, calls that notion absurd.
Although Egypt and Jordan have made peace with Israel, they both support the establishment of a Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza, and eastern Jerusalem occupied territories. They worry that the people of Gaza’s will be permanently relocated, making that difficult.
Every year, the United States provides billions of dollars in British aid to Egypt and Jordan. Egypt and Israel’s humanitarian programs were exempt from a US money freeze for international aid.
