A GOP senator advises students to pay for their meals at class rather than get them gratuitously. Representative from Georgia Rich McCormick saw President Donald Trump’s unexpected decision to halt governmental grants and loans as a chance to conduct a” top-down” analysis of expenses, including the free school meals program.
The legislator twice tried to avoid responding to questions about his position on ending programs like Head Start, which provide free meals to countless underprivileged children in the state.
” We are in such a gap spiral right now that if we don’t do something important, we will be bankrupt as a society”, said McCormick.
” When I was in high college, I worked my whole way through. You’re telling me that children should stay at home and getting their free breakfast at McDonald’s during the summer, he said.
When broadcaster Brown inquired about whether children in his district were only sitting around eating completely food, McCormick responded that this provided an opportunity to examine spending patterns before expressing his opinion on fast-food work.
He questioned the development of valuable work experience, saying,” Who can really go out there and do something that makes them have price and job skills for the future, and who can actually go and create their own money? He also inquired as to how many folks worked in fast food restaurants when they were young.
McCormick argued that children should have opportunities to leave poverty rather than to encourage child dependency on state aid.
When Brown made the point that many individuals receiving free school meals were underage, McCormick acknowledged that his ideas weren’t universally appropriate.
Research has consistently demonstrated that free school meals have a positive impact on individuals ‘ weight and improve health outcomes and academic achievement.
