Israel’s authorities charged Israel on Wednesday with halting help deliveries to Gaza and putting a prisoner release agreement at risk, an incident Israel referred to as “fake information.”
Truckloads of help have been allowed into the heartbroken Gaza Strip since a ceasefire in the conflict in Gaza ended on January 19th.
The peace is hinged on the release of Jewish captives taken during Hamas’s October 7, 2023 assault, in trade for 1, 900 people held in Israeli prison.
Hamas has so far released seven victims, with 290 captives freed in change. On Thursday, three more victims are scheduled to be freed.
But two senior Hamas representatives accused Israel of slowing down help deliveries, with one citing items critical to Gaza’s recovery for as energy, tents, heavy equipment and other products.
” According to the deal, these materials were supposed to enter during the first week of the ceasefire”, one official said.
We warn that the natural development of the contract, including the slave trade, may be impacted by persistent difficulties and failure to address these issues.
Israel hit back at the claim, with a spokeswoman for Cogat, the Israeli military government system that oversees legal affairs in the Israeli territories, calling it” completely fake information”.
Between Sunday and 1100 GMT on Wednesday, “3, 000 cars entered Gaza”, the official said.
” The agreement says it should be 4, 200 in seven time”, he added.
AFP was unable to check the terms of the agreement because the language of the one that Qatar, Egypt, and the United States mediated has not been made people.
Both Hamas authorities claimed that party associates raised the matter with Iranian officials on Wednesday at a meeting in Cairo.
A additional three victims are scheduled to be released on Saturday if everything goes according to plan for the prisoner and slave produces on Thursday.
The arrangement is intended to put an end to the more than 15 weeks of conflict between Israel and Hamas since the militant group launched an attack on Israel in 2023.
The two factors are already implementing the initial 42-day stage of the agreement, which may see 33 captives freed.
Hope
Second, they are expected to begin discussing a long-term end to the war.
The rebuilding of Gaza and the return of any remaining captives ‘ systems should be the focus of the deal’s third and final phase.
With hundreds of people attending a protest in Tel Aviv on Wednesday to show their support, the families of those who were also imprisoned in Gaza were hoping the ceasefire would prevail.
” We have to be positive. We have to stay on trying and not provide up”, 27-year-old Shakked Fainsod said.
” I don’t have the opportunity to stay at home and no keep fighting as well as their families if they keep fighting,” they say.
US President Donald Trump frequently credited with bringing about the conclusion of the deal after weeks of unsuccessful discussions with his father Joe Biden.
According to the president’s business, he has invited Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House on February 4.
The statement read,” Prime minister Netanyahu is the first international head to be invited to the White House during US President Trump’s subsequent term.”
Trump praised a program to” fresh out” the Gaza Strip after the truce ended, calling for Palestinians to emigrate to neighboring nations like Egypt or Jordan.
Egypt, Jordan, and the European governments have been vocal critics of the plan.
Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the president of Egypt, declared on Wednesday that the movement of Palestinians was an “injustice that we cannot take part in.”
More than 376, 000 displaced Palestinians have returned to north Gaza despite the destruction caused by the war, according to the UN’s Ocha.
Saif Al-Din Qazaat, who returned to northern Gaza but was forced to sleep in a tent next to the remains of his apartment, said,” I’m happy to be back at my home.”
” I kept a fire burning all night near the kids to keep them warm… ( They ) slept peacefully despite the cold but we don’t have enough blankets”, the 41-year-old told AFP.
Rubble
The trip represented a fight with the harsh realities of the damage caused by the war, in the eyes of many.
Although Mona Abu Aathra has yet to fully understand the impact of the war on her apartment, she was able to go from Gaza City to the center of the country.
Her home, Beit Hanoun, was among the areas hardest hit by a months-long Jewish defense operation which continued right up to this season’s peace.
” We returned to Gaza area with everything, and there’s no drinking water. Most roads are also blocked by the wreckage of destroyed houses”, the 20-year-old told AFP.
