A 64-person American Airlines passenger aircraft struck a U.S. Army Black Hawk plane during its getting method, which caused a severe incident on Wednesday at Ronald Reagan National Airport. An extensive search and rescue operation was triggered by the accident that occurred over the Potomac River near Washington, D.C.
Air traffic control made an attempt to deconflict the plane during the crucial moments prior to impact. The helicopter crew received directions to go behind the CRJ aircraft after making eye contact with the approaching commercial aircraft. Moments later, the incident occurred.
All floor procedures were immediately put on hold by air traffic control. The plane’s transponder signal vanished nearly 2, 400 ft little of the airport, over the Potomac River. At the time of the affair, it was confirmed that three U.S. Army staff were aboard the aircraft.
The time of influence was captured on surveillance footage from the Kennedy Center’s EarthCam, which shows two aircraft lighting convergent before erupting into a flame. Although options with knowledge of the incident have reported several casualties, rescue teams have continued to search the Potomac River for potential survivors. The total number of casualties is still undetermined.
