Over the Potomac River on Wednesday evening, an American Airlines local plane and an Army UH-60 helicopter collided. Now, rescue and recovery procedures are being conducted. According to the most recent accounts, 27 body have already been recovered from the frigid waters, and there aren’t anticipated to be any survivors.

The aircraft, flying in from Wichita, Kan., was carrying about 64 people, including people of the U. S. figure skating group and their mentors. CNN quickly chose to sensationalize the drama because first responders worked hard to find victims and get the shipwreck submerged in the river. Instead of focusing on the unfolding drama, anchor Abby Phillip attempted to blame President Trump for the transition of the fresh management.
” Look, it’s January 29th. We are simply nine times out from a political transition, an managerial change. The FAA superintendent resigned at the end of the Biden administration. So far, she said, there isn’t a permanent proved FAA executive. There will be a lot of open communication and a lot of research into what happened here, according to the statement.
Is it any question that the press rushes to force a political tale instead of revealing the truth? A disturbing pattern appears when people start to blame others for the life lost. This isn’t just reports; it’s a terrible illustration of how some media outlets can use the most absurd circumstances to advance their own agenda.  ,
When Phillip met with Phillip, the original Department of Transportation Inspector General Mary Schiavo immediately refuted the theory that there was a connection between the injury and the Trump change, noting that air traffic controllers, who operate autonomously of political modifications, were in complete power of the airport.  ,

” Well, the transition period for aircraft, not just in the D. C. place, but for all of the United States was exceedingly important”, she began. ” We have so many aircraft problems brewing right now, and there’s been, you know, condemnation of our national and our global aircraft plan, routes, exposure to aerospace, the continual roller coaster of hiring and firing of pilots. Who has exposure? What are the roads? What are we going to do to get—to find great company”?
She continued. ” And put in on top of that, you know, stuff like, you know, the helicopter customers. And therefore, I think it’s extremely important. However, the first and foremost thing is this: air traffic controllers were the only ones whose power over these businesses was complete. This is controlled airport. And, of course, air traffic controllers do never come and go with a change of political leadership. You know, we have a, fortunately, a really, you know, very trained occupation army of air traffic controllers, and that’s essential. Therefore, neither the good, you know, nor the bad, positive air traffic control should have had any impact due to the political context. ]Emphasis added. ]
The key question, according to Schiavo, is how the aircraft lost separation, leading to the collision. Schiavo expressed confidence that the NTSB will quickly discover the cause because the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder will reveal important information, and a preliminary report is anticipated in the coming days.

” The question will be, how did separation get lost”? Schiavo said. How did these aircraft get so close to one another? And without a doubt, the NTSB will get to the bottom of this, you know, really quickly because this]is a] civilian aircraft, although it’s, you know, the CRJ’s, some of them do have some years on them. Some of them are not the newest aircraft available. But it will have, of course, the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data reporter. And … I think that will capture what occurred very quickly. A preliminary report will be released by the NTSB, likely in a few days.

Not just Phillip from CNN, though, did this show a shocking lack of class in the midst of tragedy. In a situation that could only be described as appallingly tone-deaf, CNN commentator Bakari Sellers made the decision to share a screenshot of a federal hiring freeze with the caption “8 days ago” on X.
His supporters criticized him for politicizing the tragedy, and he eventually removed the post.
You deleted the post because dozens of Americans are currently being fished out of the Potomac, and you didn’t want to be haughty and put the blame on the @realDonaldTrump pic. twitter.com/djduf7OqE3— Chet Cannon (@Chet_Cannon ) January 30, 2025

As you can see, rather than owning up to his egregious timing, Sellers casually brushed it off, stating he was just “frustrated, upset, and disturbed with where we are as a country”.

So, according to Sellers, it’s not only Trump’s fault that a horrific accident occurred, but his own inability to exercise even a shred of decency is somehow Trump’s fault, too? This mentality is infuriating. It’s a clear illustration of how some critics place compassion before their narratives. Let Bakari Sellers handle the situation and turn it into a personal grievance. Unbelievable.  ,
This is CNN.
