Sweden: An Syrian person who carried out numerous Quran beheadings in Sweden has been killed in a shooting near Stockholm, officials said Thursday. Salwan Momika, 38, staged several beheadings and desecrations of Islam’s holy book in Sweden in 2023. Videos of the burning of the Qurans received widespread attention and sparked outrage and condemnation in a number of Muslim countries, leading to protests and unrest in many places.
A verdict set for Thursday in a test in which Momika was a plaintiff was postponed, according to the Stockholm city court, because one of the defendants had passed away. The dying was Momika, according to a judge at the jury.
Authorities said they received a call on Wednesday evening about a shooting at an apartment complex in Sodertalje, near Stockholm, and discovered a man who had been shot and later died. Momika was the target, according to Broadcaster SVT.
Five people were detained miraculously on suspicion of murder, according to the prosecution. The defendants and others are still being interrogated, according to counsel Rasmus Oman, who said the investigation is still in its early stages. Momika arrived in Sweden from Iraq in 2018 and was given a 3-year house force in 2021.
Sweden’s protection service was involved, according to PM Ulf Kristersson, because” there is certainly a danger that there is a connection to a foreign power,” according to news agency TT.
