University objectes to the inclusion of “political views” in science lessons lab notes
Campus administrators were furious this week over a Columbia University training agent’s try to include pro-Palestinian “political views” into facility notes for an astrophysics course.
In a statement released on Tuesday through the university’s Office of Public Affairs, the institution just listed the individual as a graduate student working as a training assistant.
In laboratory notes for an Science Test I group, the training associate added a section related to the course content, titled” Astronomy in Palestine”, The Columbia Spectator reports.
A picture of the documents posted on X shows that the teaching assistant instructed students to “understand their permissions” as they viewed the stars and planets.
The adding of the pro-Palestinian part to the course materials by the training assistant violated university policy and department guidance, according to university leaders on Tuesday.
The affirmation read,” We regret that this unethical violation of policy occurred, and we express our sincere regrets to the students in the class.” ” The infraction is being addressed through the University’s processes, and we are implementing further evaluation processes”.
Instructors are required to” conduct their lessons to the content matter covered by their training and never use them to support any political or social cause,” according to the Columbia university handbook.
Columbia has been a hub of engagement over the Israel-Palestinian issue, spurred on, in piece, by the Oct. 6, 2023 terrorist assault on Israel by Hamas.
Some have accused the New York institution’s rulers of supporting or, at least, allowing hatred to remain uninterrupted.
Three senior officials resigned last year after being found making fun of Israeli leaders and students in a number of texts, according to The College Fix.
The school also canceled classes last spring and switched to remote learning as a result of racial-torn demonstrations, according to The Fix at the time.
