RAMALLAH: Two cars carrying Arab prisoners released by Israel reached Ramallah in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, their entrance cheered by thousands of waiting Palestinians, an AFP editor reported.
Israel’s prison services, however, confirmed it had freed 110 captives on Thursday as part of the deal with Hamas for a ceasefire in Gaza, which came into effect on January 19.
Zakaria Zubeidi, 49, who flashed a victory sign as the first to leave the vehicle at the Ramallah Sports Complex where the two cars arrived was the original top violent head.
He was quickly lifted up by the cheering group, the AFP editor reported.
The two cars were seen leaving Ofer prison, where the captives were detained, in television pictures.
