It was never intended to describe the subject matter of the celebration, but rather the opinions and viewpoints of the panelist.
After it sparked controversy and reaction, a depiction of an impending panel discussion at UC Berkeley that claimed the Jewish women’s rapes and murders by Hamas extremists on October 7, 2024 were “debunked” has been removed.
The now-deleted function information stated that it would “look at how Zionism has weaponized sexism in order to provide Israel’s murderous intent,” while supporting debunked claims of organized Hamas mass assault and ignoring documented reports of Jewish abuses.
Today, the updated event website for the Feb. 11 Zoom function titled” Feminist and Queer Solidarities with Palestine” has” no information at all, only the names of the members and presence details”, the Jewish News of Northern California reported.
The language “was an intangible written by a member in the section discussion,” according to UC Berkeley spokeswoman Dan Mogulof. It was never intended to describe the main points of the celebration, but rather the opinions and viewpoints of the panelist.
Haaretz reported that in addition to the information, the occasion itself prompted concern.
According to a problem from a teacher at the law school, Professor Steven Solomon described the incident as” a sickeningly racist new low, even at Berkeley.”
The vice president of analysis lends credence to an event that is neither reasonable nor requiring restraint, as noted by Mark Brilliant, a history teacher at UC Berkeley, who wrote:” Academic freedom does not comprise the freedom to disseminate racist lies — Zionism weaponizes feminism ( whatever that means ), Israel is committing genocide, Hamas did not engage in mass assault, and… It’s difficult to imagine an event better suited to provide ammunition for the new administration to fund both UCB and the humanities.
The event will be moderated by Paola Bacchetta, UC Berkeley’s vice-chair for research, gender and women’s studies, director of the Institute for Gender and Sexuality Studies, and co-director of the Decolonizing Sexualities Network.
