ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s jailed former PM Imran Khan has criticised the policies of the ( military ) establishment in a letter to army chief General Asim Munir and called for a review of its approach towards national security and governance, his party’s leaders said on Monday.
In the letter, sent from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf ( PTI ) chief expressed his concerns over what he described as a widening gap between the army and the public.
According to Imran, PTI chair Gohar Ali Khan said that while this mistrust does not exist, there are still some causes of the gulf widening. ” Owing to those grounds, the army is being blamed, so the plan reasons may be reevaluated”, he added.
Sharing the contents of the letter, PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said the primary reason for the mistrust between the ( military ) establishment and the people, according to Imran, was the alleged rigging of the Feb 8, 2024 elections that led to a “minority govt being imposed over the majority’s wishes”. He claimed that the next point was the section of the 26th amendment to the constitution, which was introduced to “ruin the justice system and provide cover to the cases of Imran Khan and the election scams.” Chaudhry said Khan also criticised the latest changes to press laws that put limits on the internet, social press, freedom of opinion and appearance, and opposing idea.
The PTI prosecutor said the government’s That industry was at play and that human rights violations even jeopardised the country’s GSP+ position.
Imran claimed in the text that all organizations have been given the task of stifling the PTI in the nation. According to Chaudhry, Imran quoted as saying,” Terrorism is increasing because those ( military, ISI) responsible for stopping it are busy with the PTI. Because of this, their attention has been taken away from their real job, and terrorism has increased in the country even more than 2013,” adding Chaudhry.
Imran then brought up the issue of “blame for the violation and breach of the court and judiciary’s orders even falling on the defense.” According to Chaudhry, some troops did not allow implementation of judge directions. The institutions (army, ISI) are even held responsible for regular threats to journalists and judges, which causes the difference between them and the people because it needs to be quickly changed and set up in accordance with the law and the Constitution to reduce political unrest in the country, he added. The” change of policy” was being demanded “in the nation’s broader interest, the PTI lawyer said.
