As the Trump administration attempts to assert greater control over foreign aid spending, following internal opposition from within the organization, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has taken over the U.S. Agency for International Development ( USAID), an organization that has long overseen humanitarian and development aid worldwide.

Rubio confirmed to investigators that he has been appointed acting director of USAID while he was traveling in El Salvador. With Rubio at the helm, great alterations could be on the horizon.
According to Rubio,” The issue is, yes, there are issues that USAID that we do through USAID that we should continue to do and we may remain to do,” but everything they do must be in line with the country’s attention in the United States ‘ international policy,”,” Rubio said. ” No, we are independent of the regional interest,” is the mindset that USAID has adopted over the years. We support plans regardless of whether they are in line with or not in line with the international plan. That’s ridiculous”.
Liberals and former diplomats are raising the alarm over efforts to halt USAID, asserting that it raises the nation’s status and provides saving aid. The Trump presidency points out, however, that USAID has been providing support frequently in opposition to U.S. interests and has operated with much monitoring for far too long.
” These are taxpayer money”, Rubio continued. Every penny spent on foreign aid must be used for its own good and be in line with the United States ‘ national interest and foreign policy. Therefore, this does not involve essentially ending the initiatives USAID runs. There are things it does that are great, and there are things it does that we have strong questions about. It’s about the way it operates as an object. And they’re supposed to take manner from the State Department, plan way, they do not”.

” Not only do they not get coverage direction, they’re totally uncooperative”, he added. ” When you ask issues, when you try to go in and get out,’ Okay, what does this plan do?’ ‘ Who’s getting the money?’ ‘ Why was this supported?’ ‘ Why are we doing this?’ ‘ Why aren’t you coordinating with the military or the State Department?’ Their mindset is’ We don’t have to reply to you because we are separate. We answer to no one.’ Well, that’s no real”.
” The mindset that USAID has adopted over the years is ‘ no, we are independent of the national passions, we finance courses irrespective of whether it is aligned or certainly aligned with the international policy”, says , @SecRubio.

It is still uncertain whether the move may encounter legal challenges, according to a report from The Hill.
Chuck Schumer, the leader of the Senate Minority, (D-N. ). Y. ) Any attempt to break USAID may become “illegal and against our national interests,” according to late last month.
President Trump told reporters on Sunday that USAID had been run” by extreme maniacs, and we’re getting them out, and finally we’ll make a decision”. Prior to this, the president had signed an executive order halting international aid.
