Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama promised on the campaign trail in 2008 that” we are five weeks away from fundamentally changing the United States of America.” Up until that moment, Obama had thoroughly couched his red baby militancy in the dialect of restraint, of treatment, of “one America”.

It’s impossible to say for certain whether Obama mishandled the true basis of his election or if he was feeling but conceited so close to the election that he felt he could get away with something. But I’ve often felt it was the latter.
Trump was evidently kidding when he claimed in 2016 that he could” take something and… doesn’t lose citizens”. Obama wasn’t at all joking about his desire to ultimately alter the United States.
Conservatives and ( most ) Republicans shouted, “DANGER, Will Robinson, DANGER”! when Obama suddenly delivered the phrase. Even the press ( belatedly and in only one small instance ) kinda-sorta noticed. Here’s a record culled from a conversation PBS number Charlie Rose had with NBC outlet Tom Brokaw one evening after Obama’s “fundamental change” line:
- ROSE: I don’t know what Barack Obama’s view is.
- Tom: No, I don’t, sometimes.
- ROSE: I don’t understand how he really sees where China is.
- Tom: We are not well-versed in much about Barack Obama and the general branch of his perspective on foreign plan.
- ROSE: I don’t actually understand. And who are the people who are advising him, if something?
- Tom: Yeah, it’s an interesting topic.
- ROSE: His main sources of recognition are his book and his lofty statements.
- BROKAW: Two of them! I don’t understand what publications he’s read.
- ROSE: What do we hear about the soldiers of Barack Obama?
- Tom: There’s a bit about him we don’t understand.
That was the closest the media could get to conducting due diligence on the most dramatic person to ever win the White House. Obama’s victory had been a 99 % certain outcome for days, not just a little bit, but also too soon.  ,

Obama’s wide-eyed toadies lapped it up, they were enraptured by the assurance of basic change.
Give Obama this little bit of anxious credit: he was the average extreme, willing to play a much game of progressive social changes, founded upon his less reasonable social radicalism. At the end of Obama’s career, the National Catholic Register’s Paul Kengor explained:
Fundamental transformation, however, has not happened in areas where many might have hoped ( or feared ) in 2008. It has not been a fundamental change in the views of the vast majority regarding the role of government, taxes, laws, economy, education, or perhaps health care, where Obama had his name legislative achievements. Although Obama has had a significant negative impact on regions from Eastern Europe to the Middle East, it hasn’t happened in foreign policy.
” The reality is that the true fundamental transformation has been in the realm of culture”, Kengor wrote, “notably in matters of sexual orientation, marriage, and family. Eight years ago, there was a shift that was unprecedented and far beyond anyone’s imagination. The family, the bulwark of resistance against the state, is constantly at the mercy of Marxists and other collectivists. What better way to accomplish that goal than to clarify what “man” and “woman” mean and encourage children to do the same?
On the political front, Obama’s transformations were more procedural than legislative ( he never cared about the dirty work of politicking on Capitol Hill, even under the leadership of Democrats ). The IRS may have been the beginning of Obama’s campaign against the Right, but it never did. He abused the State Department and the UN to obstruct both the power of Congress and the Senate to ratify treaties. Then there are the multibillion-dollar slush funds that USAID and other organizations have long suspected and are only now learning about their true size.  ,

Underappreciated in all of this is Samantha Power’s influence, who was also Joe Biden’s choice to lead USAID for the past four years. Power has moved from a powerful but frequently secretive executive branch position to another because she felt too radical to take over the State where Obama wanted her to.
With the election of Trump 2.0 the DGAF Edition, all that work is being undone.  ,
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. Hillary Clinton was supposed to support Obama’s “permanent Democrat majority” with a further eight years of progressive rule. Instead, that interloper Donald Trump won and upset the plan.  ,
Professional revolutionaries don’t give up so easily, and Trump’s first term was undercut by “burrowed” Deep State progressives, RINOs, and Trump’s ignorance about how Washington works. Then came the irregular ( to put it all-too-mildly ) 2020 election and the installation of an Obama puppet in the Oval Office.
Trans-radicalism and other social issues — along with epic malmanagement of the economy — led to Trump’s victory. However, this new version comprehends how Obama’s fundamentally transformed Washington operates, in contrast to Trump 1.0. And he’s working hard to undo the damage.  ,
Here’s the lesson Obama never learned about America.
He could sabotage our institutions and slam trendy social nonsense, but he couldn’t stupid our belief in the truth and humanity. The fairness and decency counterrevolution is spearheaded by a fundamentally outrageous TV host/real estate developer, with a big help from the world’s richest man who wants to die on Mars, seems strange, even impossible. Yet here we are.
