Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a representative for Democrats, criticized Elon Musk for “morally unfilled” and” no intelligent” for his plan to cut US federal spending by trillions of dollars.
Ocasio-Cortez stated in an Instagram live that “he is probably one of the most ignorant entrepreneurs I have always met, seen, or witnessed.”
She added that, in light of his new actions to dismantle USAID, Musk is among the “least proficient” people making decisions about the US authorities.
The Department of Government Efficiency ( DOGE ), now under Musk’s leadership, has recently been granted access to the government’s benefits, grants, and tax refund payments, a system that was previously controlled by civil servants and managed by trillions in payments. On Monday, Musk announced receiving President Trump’s license to abandon the US Agency for International Development.
However, President Trump on Monday said that Musk lacks the authority to act freely without his government’s license.
Earlier, Musk had announced to reduce annual government expenditure by$ 1 trillion to$ 2 trillion. This ambitious goal would entail up to 30 % of annual spending, following the federal government’s spend of$ 6.75 trillion in 2024. On Monday, he also shared an X post highlighting DOGE’s achievement in reducing government spending on diversity, equity and inclusion ( DEI ) programmes by$ 1 billion.
These activities have sparked a strong backlash from several liberal politicians and media personalities. Hillary Clinton criticised Musk on Monday, labelling him an “unelected oligarch”.
Musk responded to Senator Chuck Schumer’s criticism of these paying cuts by describing his criticism of DOGE’s spending reductions as “hysterical.”
