In the name of “democracy” and governmental duty, New York Democrats are trying to shift state election laws in a last-minute bet that may inhibit President Donald Trump’s America First agenda.
Rep. Elise Stefanik will soon be a member of New York’s 21st Congressional District because Trump appointed her to serve as adviser to the UN. According to state laws, Democrat Gov. Within 10 days of Stefanik resigning her chair, Kathy Hochul is supposed to make a particular election announcement. That vote is therefore to take place between 70 and 80 days after the news.
But the group that screeched about “democracy” and “expanding election right” is trying to push off any special elections, rather seeking to keep the special vote during the June caucuses. According to the New York Post, legislators presumably met on Friday to explore potential changes to the law.
Democratic politicians assert that the decision is intended to save both money and time. A result of this would leave Stefanik’s chair without depiction for about four months. And with Republicans occupying the House with a razor-thin majority ( a majority threatened by some unreliable Republicans ), losing a seat could stymie Trump’s ability to carry out his agenda.
But it’s not just Stefanik’s seats that Democrats are trying to keep open. State Senator Simcha Felder filed documents to run for City Council in 2025, which could mean his seat could also be unoccupied. He was a part of the Independent Democratic Conference but had a caucus until 2018.
According to Latrice Walker, the Assemblywoman’s main motivations for preventing New Yorkers from having picture for decades are “democracy” and “equity.”
” We’re constantly looking for cost-effective methods by which to specific democracy”, Walker said, according to Gothamist. ” And as a voting rights activist, I’m constantly looking for justice, justice and ownership”.
Hochul’s official made the same claim, saying that Democrats have a sudden taste for fiscal responsibility.
” ]Gov. Hochul [believes it’s important to increase voter participation and lower the cost of poll management, and she would support legislation that accomplishes that goal,” the official reportedly said.
However, Anil Beephan, a representative from New York State, claimed the action is unrelated to the funds.
” This isn’t about saving tax dollars — it’s about saving their personal power. When Brian Higgins resigned, Democrats wasted no time calling a special vote for his Buffalo-area seats. They had no trouble scheduling an election right aside when Kathy Hochul ran for Congress. But then, with their power slipping after losing the Senate supermajority, they immediately want to change the rules”.
Congressman Mike Lawler, who represents New York’s 17th Congressional District, told The Federalist that Hochul and the Democrats are “hypocrites”.
” Kathy Hochul and Albany Democrats are the worst kind of liars”, Lawler said in a statement to The Federalist. ” They constantly claim that they’re’ defending democracy’ and ‘ working to expand voting rights,’ while simultaneously trying to deny Republicans, Independent, and Democratic residents of NY-21 a representative in Congress”.
” Shame on them for their obvious hypocrisy”, Lawler continued.
According to a Republican strategist, it’s surprising that Democrats are trying to” avoid the will of the people.”
” It’s New York and one party control of the state government. Of course they’re going to avoid the will of the people and remove them of picture. How long does New York’s electorate allow themselves to be abused and misused by Democrats in Albany? What could possibly go wrong if there is no one who will be advocating for Brookly n’s North Country or a neighborhood of interest?
Democrats are also attempting to alter election laws in the last minute because they anticipate that Republicans will get both chairs and want to avoid such a loss for as long as possible while conceivably boosting their mediocre chances.
Democrats are “looking down the possibility of losing both tribes in particular elections.” But instead of facing citizens head-on, they’re scheming to delay these events until key time in a last-ditch effort to boost Democrat turnout”, Beephan told The Federalist.
” Albany Democrats have a long history of rewriting election rules when it suits them,” they claim, going from changing complaint dates to removing Brian Benjamin from the ballot for lieutenant governor.
