Following the recent helicopter crash near Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy fought to suppress fears about airline travel by confirming that it is still the safest mode of transportation and expressing a desire to make it even safer.
HOW SEAN DUFFY’S FIRST DAY AT DOT WENT FROM TRIUMPH TO TRAGEDY
” So no, the airport is safe, air journey is the safest type of vacation in the country, so you can go and feel great about it on American helicopters”, Duffy said on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle. However, the personnel is insufficient, and we lost a lot of air traffic controllers when COVID was implemented. Furthermore, under the Biden administration, they didn’t allow these fresh graduates of the university from Air Traffic Control really train inside of turrets”.
Duffy finally went on to explain how the Trump presidency “has a plan in place” to increase the number of air traffic controller jobs with the goal of hiring” the country’s smartest men and women.” The transport minister even urged Congress to give the funds needed to “upgrade” the airline safety system in order to target” cracks in the program.”
Laura Ingraham posed the question of President Donald Trump potentially taking a business trip to assure the people that they are safe. Duffy argued that the commander in chief would have the authority to make the decision, but he cited the fact that he and another Trump administration officials usually fly on commercial airlines.
” This is the safest mode of transportation, and again, I think we may realize that as a people, but then also need that we didn’t have to have these accidents”, Duffy said. ” These are intolerable, and they expect management from the Department of Transportation to state,’ We don’t worry about DEI, we don’t worry about social justice, we don’t care about the environment, we care about protection.’ That’s the goal, and Donald Trump has said ‘ make certain safety is paramount and push that through this division,’ which is what we’ve been doing”.

Following Trump’s criticism of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives possibly playing a role in the Potomac plane crash, Duffy assessed that the previous administration was focused on” social justice” and” things that don’t matter in regards to safety”. He also mentioned that during the Biden administration, entrance exam scores were lowered to allow entry to air traffic control.
On Sunday, a United Airlines flight from Houston, Texas, to New York was evacuated before takeoff when flames started coming out of one of the plane’s engines. No injuries were reported in the 104 passengers who were helped by the Houston Fire Department to deboard the plane, according to a statement on X.
