TEHRAN: Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has named Hezbollah head Naim Qassem as his “representative” in Lebanon, Egyptian media reported Wednesday.
” The head of the rebellion in a order introduced Sheikh Naim Qassem, director general of Hezbollah, as his agent in Lebanon”, Tasnim news agency said.
Tasnim carried a duplicate of the formal order stating that Qassem would symbolize Khamenei in handling “non-litigious issues” and “managing spiritual matters in Lebanon.”
The media firm made reference to Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in south Beirut on September 27 and who held the same name.
Hezbollah is part of the” shaft of weight”, an ally of Iran-backed armed groups opposed to Israel and its US ally.
Khamenei, who has the final say in all Iranian provincial government things, has members in all regions and is authorized to collect spiritual money and perform different duties.
In October, Qassem was appointed Hezbollah’s president following Hashem Safieddine’s death in an Israeli airstrike soon after Nasrallah’s passing.
On February 23, Hezbollah will hold a public death for both Nasrallah and Safieddine. Public observances had been postponed for security grounds until a tense peace with Israel arrived on November 27.
