Judgment: Chicago residents have a hard time distinguishing immigration officials from different government employees.
Last year, stories that an immigration and customs police agent was on campus caused Loyola University-Chicago individuals to become in a panic.
Turns out, individuals were panic for no reason unless they didn’t enjoy answering survey questions.
Because the employee was a member of the U.S. Census Bureau and wanted to interview individuals in the dorm at Bellarmine Hall. ( My life has come a long way since I first started writing College Fix articles in my Bellarmine dorm room. ) I’m currently working on content about Bellarmine Hall for College Fix.
” Stories of ICE engagement at Bellarmine Hall spread online Jan. 31, raising fears of arrests on campus”, the Loyola Phoenix reported. Following the dissemination of baseless information on campus, some resident advisors issued an alert to students that there had been ICE activity.
According to Fox 32, the Jesuit Catholic school also instructed students,” Please take note that we have no reviews of ICE or related action on campus.”
Following another account in the pupil newspaper that year, individuals may have been on high alert.
The story discussed how the Rogers Park neighborhood, where the school is located, was” supporting]the ] immigrant community” due to arrests in Chicago and the suburbs by immigration officials.
People of Chicago have struggled to distinguish immigration officials from different government employees since President Donald Trump took office and ordered the sharp imprisonment of illegal immigrants with harsh records.
Following the city and state’s vow to resist attempts to deport illegal immigrants, a Chicago public school forbade ICE officials from entering its tower. Except that the officials were really working for the Secret Service and conducting an investigation into a protected person’s threat.
Chicago Public Schools sort of apologized, but also blamed President Donald Trump, saying it was a “misunderstanding, reflective of the fear and concerns in the community amid the]Trump ] administration’s focus on undocumented immigrants”, according to CBS News.
This “focus” has primarily been on immigrants with unlawful histories, including rape and murder.
In his repatriation effort, Trump is politically wise to place the emphasis on violent crooks primary. CPS and Loyola students should weigh this up if they want to support evicting violent criminals, or if they really believe all “undocumented” immigrants may stay in the country.
